The Main Problem with Democracy
Letís face a cold hard truth. Democracy has a major problem that few people are willing to discuss. The problem is that most people vote based on their opinions and feelings without seriously thinking or research.
In other words, when it comes to voting, most people are ignorant. People often vote against both of their short-term and long-term interests and even against societyís interests too.
So the obvious question is how to get people interested in candidates and politics? How to get people to research, debate, and think about politics more before voting?
Would it be fair that only people who pass a test concerning the topics of a vote would be allowed to vote? Or only allow highly educated people to be allowed to vote? While both of these ideas would be politically impossible to implement, maybe just recommending a drastic change could scare more people to voting more intelligently.
I will admit that I do not have a good solution to this problem, however I hope discussing this issue may result with much better recommendations.
